Room 28 Alliance

The Creation of a Lasting Memory. 1996-2026

Just in time for January 2026 the brochure The Creation of a Lasting Memory (46 pages, english) came from the printer. It is intended for people who want to play a part in creating a lasting memory and pass on the story of "The Girls of Room 28" and their legacy to present and future generations. This legacy comprises the literary works that have been produced over the last 30 years and constitute Edition Room 28. As author, editor and holder of copyrights I am now actively looking for and turning to people from these realm:

  • Film – to create a feature and a documentary film.
  • Theatre, Music to stage the play in which music plays an essential role.
  • Publishers - to ensure the future of the Edition Room 28 publications as a unit.

As the creator of the Room 28 project of remembrance and education and as managing director of the NPO Room 28, I also address the brochure to people from other areas who might be interested to play a role and join us, especially from these areas:

  • Exhibition  – to develop a permanent exhibition rooted in the existing one.
  • Education – to develop and design the Room 28 Educational project.
  • Media Archive exploring an extensive media archiv (audio and film) to be used in the educational project and exhibition.

These parts of the project are linked to the question of whether our small organization Room 28 e. V. can become strong enough financially and in terms of personnel to take on the role of sole organizer of this ambitious project. Forming a partnership with a strong, like-minded organisation would certainly be a desirable option.

Associated organization

The NPO Room 28 is the associated organization for the educational part of the untertaking including the exhibition. It was founded in 2007 with the central mission of supporting the creation of a lasting memory and telling the story of these girls to present and future generations. - I am co-founder and, since 2008, managing director of this organization. It is a small circle of friends, presently 30 members, among them prominent personalities from the cultural scene and  committed teachers who appreciate the  educational value and material and use it in class and for various projects. Make a Difference. Get involved.

The Room 28 Project of Remembrance and Education was realized over 30 years under difficult conditions basically by one person - many years inspired and supported by the survivors themselves. Now this is not possible any more. A transformation is absolutly necessary. Therefore, the aim of the brochure is to establish a broad and varied alliance with partners and supporters.

We welcome

  • Donors who wish to support and finance our efforts and goals.
  • Friends who join us in standing up for a better world.
  • Supporters in whatever way possible.
  • New Members in our organization 'Room 28', which may, if fortune favors us, be transformed into a foundation.

Our Allies

The members of our association are the core allies for the project outlined here. Further allies are required to realize the vision behind the project.

I am happy to say that one of the most important allies is the opera director Mstislav Pentkovsky, Riga (Lativa). He has staged Hans Krása's children opera Brundibár at the Mariinsky Theatre and the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, at the Volgograd Music Theatre, the Moscow Philharmonic and the Tallinn Russian Theatre in Estonia. He has inspired to our "Brundibár. Reading and Gift project for children"  and is especially interested in the music play about "The Girls of Room 28". The play also tells the story of "Brundibár" in Theresienstadt. The idea is in the air to develop a German-Latvian or European project with it - or whatever arises, whatever is possible. Any ideas and allies are very welcome.
