The Creation of a Lasting Memory. 1996-2026

Just in time for January 2026 the brochure The Creation of a Lasting Memory (46 pages, English) was ready.  It is addressed to people who want to play a part in creating a lasting memory and pass on the story of "The Girls of Room 28" and their legacy to present and future generations. This legacy comprises the literary works that have been produced over the last 30 years and constitute Edition Room 28. As author, editor and publisher I am now actively looking for and turning to people from these realms and this is exactly why I wrote this brochure.

The Power of Human Dignity.

Now it’s important to keep their story alive and make sure that this unique legacy is preserved. That is why we bring the 2004 exhibition The Girls of Room 28 online, enrich it with selected audio and video clips from our media archive, and develop an international educational platform for the Room 28 Remembrance and Education Project. By launching this platform, we will create an important resource for research and historical education on the Nazi regime, the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, the Theresienstadt ghetto, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Holocaust, and intellectual resistance.

The project addresses schools, educational institutions, teachers, and people working in education, the arts, and culture. Above all, however, it is aimed at young people.

Make a Difference. Get involved.

Of course, we need allies, friends, and support. Therefore we are on Betterplace. Every contribution helps us keep the legacy of the “Girls of Room 28” alive. Together, we can make a difference!

Associated organization

The NPO Room 28 is the associated organization for the educational part of the untertaking including the exhibition. It was founded in 2007 with the central mission of supporting the creation of a lasting memory and telling the story of these girls to present and future generations. See: www.room28.net/home

Our Allies

The members of our association are the core allies for the project outlined here. Further allies are required to realize the vision behind the project.

I am happy to say that one of the most important allies is the opera director Mstislav Pentkovsky, Riga (Lativa). He has staged Hans Krása's children opera Brundibár at the Mariinsky Theatre and the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, at the Volgograd Music Theatre, the Moscow Philharmonic and the Tallinn Russian Theatre in Estonia. He has inspired to our "Brundibár. Reading and Gift project for children"  and is especially interested in the music play about "The Girls of Room 28". The play also tells the story of "Brundibár" in Theresienstadt. The idea is in the air to develop a German-Latvian or European project with it - or whatever arises, whatever is possible. Any ideas and allies are very welcome.
