Read countless times Helga Pollak-Kinsky since the book was published The girls from room 28 in 2004 from her Theresienstadt diary, while I led the story through the story as the narrator. The readings were continually redesigned and adapted to the respective context and thematic focus. Over time, a form of performance emerged that became our highlight: performances with the Berliner Ensemble Between O ckhaus.

The ravishingly authentic songs performed by this ensemble – Maria Thomaschke, Andreas Jocksch and Winfried Radeke , since 2018 Nikolai Orloff at the piano - correspond wonderfully with Helga's diary entries and the calendar notes of her father Otto Pollak. Text and music hit the heart and make you feel the elementary power inherent in art, what artistic achievement and creative work can mean for people who are on the brink of an abyss.

We have presented our program at various locations since 2008, including the Theater Rendsburg (2009), the Magdeburg barracks in Terezin (2009), the Schöneberg town hall (2009, 2012 and 2016), in Israel (2010), and at the European Commission in Brussels (2013), in Kiel (2012) and in the Academy of Arts in Berlin (2008 and 2014).

Our last joint appearance with Helga Kinsky was on January 29, 2017 in the Stadtsaal Vienna . The Holocaust Remembrance Day matinée in Vienna, a German-Austrian project by Room 28 and ESRA, was supported by the German Embassy in Vienna and the German Foreign Office. The Austrian Federal President Alexander van der Bellen gave the welcoming speech. The ORF recorded the program and produced the double CD shown here, which is available on the ORF shop is available.

Further performances - unfortunately without Helga Kinsky, née Pollak (1930-2022) - followed. At the invitation of the mayor of the city of Syke, Ms. Suse Laue, we presented our program in an extraordinary way on January 27, 2018. Students from the Syke secondary school contributed small scenes, the student choir sang under the direction of Tobias Apel, and Vanessa Reichert played the piano. Mayor Suse Laue and the then mayor of the neighboring town of Weyhe, Dr. Andreas Bovenschulte, also took part in the reading and brought some quotes to the lecture.
